At Karakun, we believe in personal data privacy and your privacy matters. We collect and use data responsibly, prioritize security, and follow data protection laws. We respect your rights, value transparency, and continuously improve our practices. To ensure that your personal identifiable data is secure, we defined technical and organizational measures (respecting “Privacy by Design”). With our privacy measures, we guarantee maximum security of personal identifiable data without collecting unnecessary data (“Privacy by Default”).

Protection of intellectual property and trade secrets

At Karakun, we respect the intellectual property and confidential information of our own and third parties and protect them from unauthorized access in our daily work. In case of doubts, we commit to clarifying the situation with experts.

IT security

At Karakun, everyone contributes to digital security—we all take over full responsibility. We take care of your data on your laptop and keep access controlled, devices secure, and data protected. We stay mindful of threats and report issues immediately. Together, we ensure a safe digital space.

We live and respect diversity

At Karakun, we are convinced that we benefit personally and as a company from the widely diverse characters, knowledge and experience of our employees and partners. Diversity is not just a buzzword for us, as we have employees of many different nationalities, religions and genders. Thus, we don’t tolerate any form of racism, discrimination, mobbing and deliberate spreading of fake news.

Ecologically responsible action, conservation of resources

At Karakun, we are aware of our responsibilities towards nature. Thus, we use public transportation for business travel whenever possible. Individual means of transport should be used wisely and have the smallest possible ecological footprint. Furthermore, we foster multiple micro initiatives by our employees (e.g. re-usable dishes, usage of PET, etc.), and use eco-friendly cloud service providers instead of managing our own hardware.

Live Feedback!

At Karakun, we are convinced that an open and actively practised feedback culture is one of the most important success factors in a company. Thus, we provide feedback training to empower employees to ask for and to give constructive feedback. Due to our open-door policy, every Karakun employee has the possibility to provide feedback during his/her daily work. Besides that, Karakun offers additional processes like a yearly Continuous Improvement Workshop, regular retrospectives within teams and projects and regular meetings with dedicated Jour Fixe partners to support, integrate and inform others on all kinds of topics.

Respect / Partnership

At Karakun, we believe that company success can only be achieved with respectful and fair collaboration. Due to flat hierarchies, a friendly relationship unites Karakun employees. We take care of and help each other, wherever possible.

Share knowledge

At Karakun, sharing knowledge is part of our DNA. Thus, we support each initiative to foster knowledge exchange, like

  • weekly internal talks
  • participation in conferences
  • regular code camps
  • publication of contributions on our DevHub, social media, journals, blogs or similar
  • support students and interns working with and for Karakun
  • giving lectures at universities

Tolerance against errors

At Karakun, we accept that each and every one makes mistakes. Nobody will be sanctioned because of this.

 

Responsibility towards the company

Dealing with company assets (e.g. use of company devices etc.)

At Karakun, we consider ourselves as a community. Therefore, we expect every employee to consciously and responsibly handle company assets. This includes a meaningful usage of company funds and a careful treatment of inventory.

Avoidance of conflicts of interest

At Karakun, we expect every employee to operate in a way to avoid conflicts of interest for other Karakun members and himself. We, for example, don’t prefer suppliers and applicants because of personal connections. Furthermore, we decide upon fair and transparent criteria.

How to represent Karakun as an employee in public?

At Karakun, every employee is representing the whole company day by day. In this regard, it is important to us that Karakun members act in line with our values and culture. This means professional and cooperative behaviour towards every individual in particular. We expect political neutrality from our employees and that they operate in line with the company’s goals. This includes respectful, non-discriminatory communication in any statement related to Karakun and retrieving appropriate approvals before providing an official Karakun position.

How to evolve Karakun’s knowledge base

At Karakun, we grant every employee a yearly individual training budget that shall be used for professional development. As a company, we encourage every employee to use this budget to provide the best possible know-how to our customers.

At Karakun, we are proud of and put great emphasis on our company values as already mentioned. We act as a fair market competitor, respecting antitrust laws, import and export regulations and human rights. Thus, we prohibit every form of corruption, bribery, money laundering, financing of terrorism, insider trading and exploitation.

Product quality and safety

At Karakun, we commit ourselves to delivering the best software solution for our customer’s needs. This means, in particular, clean, well-documented, and maintainable code that complies with the latest security standards (security by design and by default). Furthermore, we consider the usability of a software solution crucial for its acceptance. Thus, we always include state-of-the-art UX and UI paradigms in our development processes.

Value creation for our customers

At Karakun, our software solutions and our consultancy are always directed to create the best possible value for our customers.

Political activities, lobbying

At Karakun, we don’t donate any money to political parties or elected officials and don’t grant them any non-cash benefits beyond what is legally permissible.

Handling of open-source projects at Karakun

At Karakun, we make use of open-source software in customer projects (if applicable). As an active member of the open-source software community, we offer our employees the opportunity to commit to open-source projects and attend community events (conferences, code camps, and others) as a speaker, participant or organizer. Additionally, we sponsor selected projects and initiatives. With all this, we aim to foster the ideas behind open-source software.

At Karakun, we reserve ourselves the right to carefully select our corporation partners for ethical reasons.
